The State says it is remaining with one witness to conclude its case in the murder trial of Agnes Katengeza, who was killed in 2023.
Director of Criminal Litigation Dzikondianthu Malunda said this on Tuesday in the High Court of Malawi in Lilongwe after the State paraded five witnesses, saying an investigator was the final witness yesterday.
The State has so far paraded 12 witnesses.

One of the witnesses, Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) pension administration supervisor Yvonne Jere, told the court that Egnat Katengeza, one of the suspects, was the sole beneficiary of Agnes’s pension benefits.
She said Agnes indicated in September 2023 that she wanted to change her nomination because she was having issues with someone, but did not make the change before her death.
In cross-examination, defence lawyer Kavu Kaphwiti Banda asked Jere to confirm that Egnat was the sole beneficiary and that the other suspect, Amos Katengeza, was not named.
Another witness, Kamuzu Central Hospital forensic department senior clinical officer Andrew Mwale told the court that Agnes died from brain injuries caused by a severe blow to the head.
Soko questioned him about a police report allegedly indicating that poison had been injected into Agnes’ body.
Mwale said he did not indicate that Agnes was poisoned, adding that the substance could have formed part of a hypothesis.
Agnes, who worked as a network administrator at RBM, was found dead in the trunk of her car in Lilongwe on September 24 2023.
Police later arrested Amos and Egnat in connection with her death.
